Prestigious landmarks cut energy costs with Powerstar

London City Hall & The Palace of Westminster
EMSc (UK) Ltd, manufacturer of the Star® range of energy saving solutions, recently completed the successful installation of its award-winning Powerstar voltage optimisation system at two of London’s most iconic landmarks, resulting in immediate savings in energy consumption and a substantial reduction in electricity costs and CO2 emissions.

The company is honoured and proud to announce that Powerstar has been installed into The Palace of Westminster, home of Big Ben and the House of Commons, where results are being monitored over the next few months.

In addition, the installation of Powerstar at London City Hall, which was designed by leading architect Sir Norman Foster to maximise energy efficiency, has resulted in annual energy consumption savings of 13.6%.

Commenting on the installations Dr Alex Mardapittas, EMSc (UK) Ltd managing director and designer of Powerstar said:
“The Greater London Authority has invested extensively in a range of measures to make buildings across London increasingly more energy efficient. The installation of Powerstar has added to these efforts and is helping cut these buildings’ carbon footprint and electricity consumption.”

The Palace of Westminster and London City Hall join other iconic sites such as the Welsh Assembly, House of Keys, Western Australia Parliament and London Stock Market in benefiting from the installation of Powerstar, which is a unique triple wound system with a patented design that actively reduces a considerable percentage of electrical energy consumption. The system generally achieves average savings of 12-15%, improves the life expectancy of electrical equipment, and enhances power quality by reducing harmonics.

Dr Mardapittas added: “As a company we pride ourselves on delivering an engineering solution that is individually tailored to suit the needs of each customer. With unrivalled results in energy savings and 100% reliability for our Powerstar units in over 4500 installations, we are proud to be helping the GLA to reduce both energy consumption and carbon emissions.”

Powerstar is fully designed and manufactured in the UK and is exported worldwide to countries including Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Malta and South Africa.

Independent tests performed by RWE npower has confirmed that Powerstar is the best Voltage Optimisation/VPO system available in the market today – it is better able to save energy, reduced harmonics and improve power factor than imported Japanese VPO systems.

Said Dr Mardapittas:
“Powerstar is a great British product, fully designed and manufactured in the UK for the world market.”

Clugston Distribution celebrates 75 years in business

Clugston employees celebrating the company’s 75th anniversary
Clugston Distribution Services is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2012 - as part of the Clugston Group - by raising £75,000 for a number of charities. Employees from the company, which recently announced it was expanding into the fuels distribution market with a £500,000 investment in 4 new 44 tonne fuels tankers, will be participating in a number of fund raising events.

Taking place throughout 2012 fund raising activities include, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, a 38 mile cycle ride from Lincoln to Boston and a 10 kilometre swim.

Clugston Distribution, together with the rest of the Clugston Group, will also be pledging savings made throughout the year from the introduction of energy saving and carbon reducing technologies, which form part of the company’s plan to develop and implement a sustainable strategy for the future.

Recent green initiatives include the installation of photovoltaic panels at the company’s offices in Scunthorpe and the installation of new technology - within the logistics fleet - which promotes fuel and carbon efficient driving by providing drivers with real time in-cab alerts about their driving style.

Started by the current chairman’s father in the 1930s the company has been involved in providing distribution services from the early days.
