Successful free seminar

Companies in the the North West were able to find out how voltage optimisation could help them cut their energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint at a free training seminar held in Warrington by the market leader in voltage optimisation EMSc (UK) Ltd, manufacturers of the Powerstar voltage optimisation system.

Throughout the UK companies are increasingly turning to voltage optimisation to reduce their energy consumption and lower their carbon emissions to achieve sustainability strategy targets.  Voltage optimisation is a simple cost efficient way to control a building’s incoming voltage in order to maximise energy savings.

The North West seminar, which was held in partnership with the Energy Institute, was be presented by Powerstar sales engineer for the North West Ray Booth and EMSc (UK) Ltd UK Sales Manager Peter Newell.

Mark Hobbins, a registered energy engineer with Energy Institute, as well as a Low Carbon Consultant with CIBSE, was the guest speaker at the event, covering topics about energy and environmental projects in business and industry, including legislation, controls, metering and lighting.

Peter Newell, commented,
“Companies are under increasing pressure to spend less whilst at the same time putting in place measures to operate in a more environmentally friendly way. The seminars will provide companies with the opportunity to learn more about how voltage optimisation can help reduce their carbon emissions and save money. More and more companies are embracing voltage optimisation technology.”
Powerstar is the most efficient voltage optimisation system available and can save up to 26.1% of total electricity consumption as well related CO2 emissions, all without compromising the supply to electrical equipment.

Powerstar will be exhibiting at Sustainability Live at the NEC, Birmingham between Tuesday 24th-Thursday 26th May on stand M10.

HRH The Duke of Kent formally opens Harvard’s new premises

Harvard, a leading manufacturer of wireless street lighting solutions, as well as LED and HID lighting controls, is pleased to announce its impressive new manufacturing facility and offices were officially opened by HRH The Duke of Kent on Thursday 12th May. HRH The Duke of Kent also presented Harvard with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise, within the innovation category.
Harvard was awarded the Queen’s Award for its innovative wireless street lighting management system, LeafNut, which is helping Local Councils and private businesses around the UK cut energy usage and reduce carbon emissions. LeafNut allows Local Authorities to cleverly manage their street lights without having to controversially ‘switch off’.
The company, which has experienced significant growth over the last two years, increasing employee numbers from 100 to 210, grew too large for its previous premises and made the move to Normanton in Wakefield.

The industry leading facility includes a world class research and development centre, which would be the envy of any Silicon Valley company, where all the company’s innovative ideas will be realised into new products and solutions. The premises also include a manufacturing facility with the most advanced automated assembly equipment in the industry.
Harvard develops innovative and efficient lighting solutions for commercial, retail, emergency and street lighting applications. Products include LED drivers, which efficiently control LED lights as well as the innovative LeafNut remote wireless street lighting solution.
The popular LeafNut Central Management System (CMS) was fully manufactured in the UK and is currently adopted by more than 40 Local Authorities worldwide, with 400,000 LeafNut controlled street lights being deployed and 100,000 already in operation.
Michael McDonnell, sales and marketing director at Harvard commented,
“It is an honour to have HRH The Duke of Kent open our new premises and present our Queen’s Award. As a growing company, it is very exciting to have such a high profile guest marking the occasion with us.  Despite the current recession, we are anticipating our growth will continue in 2011 and 2012, at an even faster pace.
Most Local Authorities are now aware of the undoubted benefits of using innovative applications like LeafNut to manage their street lights and we have combined this technology with our new LeafNut Enabled LED Driver to offer a LeafNut LED solution.”
